Functional Neurodevelopment Assessment
A Functional Neurodevelopment Assessment is designed to gather information about a child’s health history, current concerns and areas of everyday function.
Depending on the reason for the appointment, the practitioner may consider areas such as movement, balance, coordination, sensory-motor function, timing, attention and participation in daily activities.
The assessment findings are considered together with the child’s history and individual circumstances before any recommendations are discussed.
Does my child have a brain imbalance?
WHAT WE MAY ASSESS
Balance, coordination, posture, and core stability
Primitive reflexes (early movement patterns that should integrate with development)
Sensory-motor processing and body awareness
Timing, attention, and processing speed
Visual and auditory skills (where clinically relevant)
The assessment methods used will depend on the child’s presentation, health history and the reason for the appointment.
Assessment findings are considered as part of an overall clinical picture and do not, on their own, provide a diagnosis or determine that treatment is required.
